Welcome to the Springfield Kennel Club

The Springfield Kennel Club is an all breed dog club in the Springfield, Massachusetts area. We are a member club of the American Kennel Club. The Springfield Kennel Club (SKC) is one of the oldest kennel clubs in New England. SKC was formed in 1922 and held its first AKC Point show on January 12, 1924. The club became a member club of the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1929.

MA Committee releases re-draft of Ollie's Law

The Joint Municipalities Committee released the a re-draft of Ollie’s Law on Thursday afternoon (download available below).  It has gone to Senate Ways and Means Committee for a fiscal analysis.
 HB 2019 and SB 1309, “Ollie’s Law” 
WOULD NO LONGER
•  Add state regulations to towns’ enforcement of municipal kennel licensees; 
• Create a new sixth municipal kennel license category for “personal breeder kennel” by carving out a subset of “personal kennel” owners that have intact female dogs over 6 months of age; 
•  Adopt commercial rules and regulations and also apply them to “personal breeder kennel” licensees, unless they keep all offspring of their personally owned dogs;   
WOULD STILL 
•  Appoint an advisory committee to annually review regulations and recommend staff-to-dog ratios, fire and emergency planning, group sizes and supervision, minimum housing and care requirements, indoor and outdoor physical facility requirements, dog handling, and insurance for commercial boarding or training kennels and private residences providing boarding services (Rover.com types); and 
• Require reporting of all injuries to dogs or people at these commercial boarding or training kennels to the state for investigation. Actions taken by the state for violations will be publicly posted.
